For my 66th birthday, I had the pleasure of receiving as a birthday present a TI-66 (new!)...
Other TI programmable calculators should be added by the end of the summer. (2021)
In the meantime I dive back into the discovery of a new machine.

The TI-66 |
|
The TI-66, released in 1983, differs from previous programmable TI by its horizontal format.
It is only a modernized TI-58C which uses the same programming language AOS and also has a constant memory but adopts an LCD display allowing the alphanumeric display of the program instructions.
Compared to the TI-58C other differences are to be noted:
the memory is 512 program steps (480 for the TI-58C),
battery powered LR44 [750h autonomy] or SR44 [2000h autonomy] (no more battery pack and charger),
the PC-100C printer is replaced by a small thermal printer PC-200 connected via a mini serial port.
But also ... (disappointment!)
no more SSL library modules (PGM disappears),
no more HIR or DSZ xx...

TI-66 emulator |
|
On the emulation side, the TI-66 is not well off ...
No other emulator than that of Claudio Larini seems to exist.
The TI-66.exe by Claudio is fantastic work that should be noted, but its ergonomics make it unpleasant to use:
the keyboard is used by moving from key to key with up / down, left / right arrows (no mouse),
no other language than Italian,
garish colors that end up tiring the eyes.
Too bad!
A use of the mouse,
a multi-language version or even only English,
and the possibility of choosing its colors
would surely have given this emulator the success it deserved to have.
